Redoubt Fort

Harwich and Dovercourt

Harwich is justly proud of its rich maritime history and this tradition continues today, as it is now the UK's second busiest passenger ferry port. From Ha'Penny Pier Visitor Centre on the Quay there are guided walking tours throughout the summer. Alternatively, you can follow the absorbing Maritime Trail in your own time. Attractions include the Electric Palace Cinema, Redoubt Fort, numerous museums and lighthouses.

Just to the south of Harwich lies the older town of Dovercourt, which has been settled since prehistoric times. Particular features of the town are the iron lighthouses or 'Leading Lights' which sit along the picturesque Blue Flag beach.
